Concrete Repair FAQs
Repair makes sense when the structural integrity is intact and the damage is cosmetic, surface-level, or localized, hairline cracks, surface wear, sunken sections from settling. Replacement makes sense when the slab is broken through, badly heaved, or the sub-base has failed. We give you the honest answer at the site visit, including cost and longevity for each option.
The big four in our climate: freeze-thaw cycles, poor sub-base or drainage, tree roots, and concrete laid too thin or without proper reinforcement. Heavy vehicle loads on residential-spec slabs are a frequent culprit too. We diagnose the cause first. Repairing without fixing the cause means the damage comes back.
Slabjacking (also called mudjacking or slab lifting) is a method for raising sunken concrete back to its original level by injecting material underneath the slab. It's fast, less expensive than replacement, and works well for sunken driveways, walkways, and patios that are still structurally sound. We assess whether it's the right call at the site visit.
Properly executed crack repair, slabjacking, and resurfacing can last 10–20+ years if the underlying cause has been addressed. Repairs that don't address the cause will come back within a few years. We address causes, not just symptoms.
For most repairs, yes. We match colour with integral pigments and texture with stamping or troweling techniques. Perfect invisibility is rare on aged concrete, but a clean, consistent match is achievable. We show you sample swatches at the design stage.
Most concrete contractors in Vancouver upsell every visit into a full replacement. We don't. We tell you when repair is the smart call and when replacement is, and we give you both options where they apply. The work itself is run by our in-house team, with one project lead from assessment through handover.
